Professional, evidence-based Pop singing lessons designed to maximise your vocal potential.
Pop singers have to be able to make an enormous variety of sounds, ranging in voice quality from a whisper to a high intensity belt. Each of these sounds must be made efficiently and healthily.
Singing 'techniques' that insist on a certain aesthetic quality, or on a specific mode of production not only inhibit the singer's natural voice, but can quickly introduce habits and tensions that can take years to undo. Put simply, traditional, Classically-based singing lessons are not appropriate for modern commercial singers.
What Pop and R&B singers need is a flexible, safe and easy method of production that allows them to make any sound they desire in a way that allows them to sing for a lifetime.
Lessons with Andy will introduce the basic concepts of efficient air flow (normally MUCH less than people think!), Vocal Registers, 'Head and 'Chest' voice (and what people mean by those terms) and explain in detail the different voice 'recipes' you can use when singing Pop - Mix, Belt, Twang, Falsetto etc.
At the same time, you'll examine the different styles you need to employ when singing pop, specifically how your use of diction is different to other genres and how rhythm can be a useful tool. You'll also learn to understand the basics of microphone technique - how to set it up and use it to your advantage.
Andy is also happy to coach you through auditions, from choosing relevant songs to perfecting your performance.
Discover your true potential and take control of your future
Andy Follin is an Estill Master Trainer (EMT) of Estill Voice Training™, a revolutionary method of singing and learning to sing that puts the singer in complete control of their voice. With Estill Voice Training™, the singer is empowered to make subtle choices, to use their voice in a natural way, and to take ownership of their own artistry.
As one of only 3 Estill Master Trainers working in the North West of England, Andy is uniquely placed to assist pop singers in the area.
Andy is a full-time, professional vocal coach, not a school teacher, singer or pianist giving a few singing lessons in their spare time. Unlike a lot of voice teachers, Andy does not insist on long-term tuition, where students have to attend regular lessons, repeating the same exercises until their voice improves. You can attend as often as you like, but there's no compulsion to attend every week or every fortnight. In fact, many students only book sessions every 4 to 6 weeks.
Estill Voice Training™ is known for producing quick results. Quite often, Andy finds that long-standing problems can be fixed in the first few lessons. At your first session, Andy will give you an assessment of your abilities and draw up a plan that ensures you get to where you want to be, as quickly as possible.
